Private Tour of Contemporary Art Galleries in Belgrade

This private 2.5-hour tour takes you through three to five contemporary art galleries in Belgrade with art historian Ksenija Kastratović. You’ll get the backstory of Belgrade’s art scene, from Yugoslav era and 1970s conceptual art to today and meet artists, gallerists and curators of the current shows. You can pick the time of your tour, Monday to Saturdays from noon to 5 PM. The price is EUR 45 per person, paid in cash on the tour.

Depending on what’s on show, we craft an itinerary that strikes most.

We’ll visit three to five places and speak to artists, gallerists and curators.

Hopping between galleries, we’ll cover the intro to the art scene in Belgrade. How Yugoslav establishment treated art and artists, how conceptual art emerged in the 1970s and delivered Marina Abramović, what was happening during 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

November Gallery

November is a privately owned gallery in Vračar, Belgrade’s neighbourhood with probably the highest concentration of art lovers. It shows established Serbian artists and organizes engaging openings and finissages.

U10 Gallery

This gallery was founded by 10 artists who shared the classroom at the art school. It shows emerging artists from Serbia and abroad. Our favorite is their annual exhibition of master student works called Masterpieces.

Galleries of Cultural Center of Belgrade and Youth Center of Belgrade

These are two public galleries, run by the City of Belgrade, that offer exciting choices. The Cultural Center’s Gallery mainly shows the younger generation of established artists, with dedicated video and photo sections. The Youth Center’s Gallery, an unassuming space with a respectable 60-year tradition, mostly shows emerging artists.

We choose the exact itinerary depending on how impressive and relevant the current shows are. At times it may leave out some of the above galleries while including others.

Who is the Guide of Private Contemporary Art Tours in Belgrade

Ksenija Kastratović holds MA in Art History and has curated some art shows herself. She’s been an art lover since her childhood years, when she first started visiting exhibitions with her mom.

Ksenija has been guiding art tours in Belgrade since 2019, when she guided travelers and expats through the retrospective of Marina Abramović at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The lasting inspiration led Ksenija to continue Belgrade art tours and start taking local art lovers to Venice Biennale.
